Dance Iranian Style is inspired by the harsh reality of the life of refugees who,
according to the Dutch immigration law, may not stay in the Netherlands and yet they cannot be sent back to their countries, as it’s uncertain which dangers will be awaiting them in the land of their origin. The only option for these refugees/people is to start a so called 'illegal life' on streets.

Dance Iranian Style is depicted through an improvisational work style in which fiction and non-fiction elements are interwoven throughout, creating a film-within-a-film. The film opens with a short interview scene with refugees from different countries who have been denied permission to stay in the Netherlands. Roya, the main character, is among them. In the next scene, Roya agrees to allow a documentary film crew to follow her if her asylum request is denied and she is forced to live illegally in the country. What follows is a mix of fictional and non-fictional narratives.
